I'm not alone. We are many.

The data about plastic pollution is so immense, so overwhelming that at first I found it paralysing. Unexpectedly, but happily as my awareness about plastic grows, so grows my awareness about other people who care about plastic pollution. Dhruv is one of them. Check out the TEDx on plastic pollution by Dhruv Boruah.

CHANGE STARTS FROM AWARENESS

While learning about types of plastic I found this TED Ed video very helpful. I am so grateful for TED Ed and other educational plaforms, which so beautifully explain the hardest topics. They are also the proof, that you don't have to chain yourself to trees if you want to do something for the environment. If this is your strength and talent, create videos, infographics, tutorials, reviews, books, webinars... I could go on ;-) Simply, create materials that increase awareness, because CHANGE STARTS FROM AWARENESS. In this little video you learn that if you really must buy plastic, buy PET or HDPE.

Glass bottles?

You know how you suddenly start noticing cars of a particular brand when you think of buying one?

This morning I had a visit at my bank. They offered me water, which I was very grateful for, especially after the bike ride. I was even more grateful to see it came out of a glass bottle.

I never noticed these things until now that I took on the PlasticFreeJuly challenge. Even if I don't manage to go zero plastic, it's such a great exercise for my awareness. The start of a process. My new journey.

Plastic Free Shopping

It's Plastic Free July you guys and I did my first big July shopping. Here are my successes:
- I chose fruits and vegetables that come free or in cardboard boxes over those in plastic packaging.
- I chose chocolate bars in paper and aluminium wrapping over those in plastic.
- I chose water in glass bottles over those in...you know what :-)
I am starting to make a list of products that I used to buy and which come in... starts with 'p', so that I can approach the producers and ask them to change the packaging.
Also, I cannot understand why my bio-cucumber must be wrapped in a plastic condom!? So, I'm planning to start writing to all the bio brands and ask them to switch to a bio-degradable foil or something else.
Anyone out there experienced in writing such letters? Please share your tips in the comments. PLEASE DO.

Little choices make a big difference

Whether it's environmentally friendly cleaning products, lights and water taps with movement sensors or avoiding disposable cups and plates - it's these little changes which benefit the environment as well as YOUR BUDGET. Thumbs up!
